title

surgeon said that my chin is too long vertically and that I would benefit from having it shortened

so he shortened it in the virtual surgical planning and then said that there would be a stepoff in the mid-mandible area and said that he will shave some of it off

is this is a good idea? ngl I have never heard of this before

literally the part in the middle of the mandible

I think it is the same as the mandibular body

Depends on ratios i guess. don't know what your skull looks like. Did you ask him why he wants to do that?

said that there would be a step-off otherwise and doing this would take away "some of that verticality"

guess it makes sense but I've just never heard of a surgeon doing jaw shaving outside of those jaw contouring procedures in korea which almost always end up being looksmins

Yeah I'm not sure about that, jaw shaving sounds looksmin since men need bone mass. Like I'd understand bone shaving if its due to abnormal bone mass causing assymetry like my case.

he is very blackpilled though and talked about on PSL so I want to trust him

also it makes sense why my mid mandible could be too vertically long because my chin is (they couldve grown too tall in conjuction)

he also talked about how he will do the genio to produce "chin hollowing", which I've never heard of but he says is very aesthetic

I'd trust him then if he is blackpilled. But maybe tell him what it would look like? Maybe some photoshop morph or something

maybe the 1/3 chin and jaw seperation?

pics bruh. Although a wide and thicker mid mandible is a good thing, but in the end harmony is key. The mandible should be widest at the furthest posterior regio and taper towards the chin.

Surgeon I consulted suggested a chin reduction to me too but never mentioned anything about shaving mid mandible
What surgeon are you speaking to?

you kinda have to shave it to correct the step deformity where the osteotomy is. he's not gonna shave you whole mandible. surgeons also use grafts of bone/blood to smooth out the step in normal genio, depending on severity.

afaik it doesn't really make a difference visually. it corrects it so that you don't feel a step when going over it with your hand or whatever.

pics bruh
pics=care. he's prob looksminning you even with the chin reduction

okay here they are:

chin at the moment:

0 2

chin after genio (if everything goes to plan):

0 1

the parts of my jaw he wants to shave:

0 3

0 4

0 5

0 6

when he was doing this he said "what I'll be doing is taking those little bumps away"

then I asked if it would take away any robustness by doing jaw shaving and he said "no no but it will take away some of that verticality, but itll look really nice"

he then said that I'll feel that bump with my finger and that "I've gotta shave it" and chuckled

thoughts? he is the only surgeon I have consulted who has said anything about this

I don't think I will go to him also because I don't like his upper jaw movements, but is it worth asking the surgeon I do end up going with to do this same jaw shaving after genio?

didnt know this. might be the most accurate answer in this thread tbh

Name of the surgeon? I may have to get part of my chin shaved if I do bimax or ching wing since I had a sliding genioplasty before.

thé step off will be so minimum that irl u wouldn't see it

Shaving bone mean soft tissu loss, tell him if he can tighten submental muscle

Guess I will just have to accept the small loss in bone mass

and ya will tell him to tighten the submental as much as possible regardless of all that. But what procedure would he have to do to achieve this?

raffaini also shave
well with ccw bimax u sometimes have to shave to keep mandible straight but to minituarize already straight mandible and to reduce chin height will cause the cheeks to round. Even thought it may look good in theory and more ideal ratios it doesn’t translate to facial soft tissue cuz the face becomes less gaunt

He said that it will cause a step off though with the chin that I’ll be able to feel with my finger

also he is very blackpilled so don’t you think he would take that into account

Did you end up getting bimax and the shaving? Tbh I think mid mandible shaving is an excellent way to remove rounded mandible especially in cases like this

I think it is important visually because when you have your jawline showing after bimax and you can see the stepoff it looks shitty
