You get hot water straight from the pipes? It probably gets heated in your home or in larger buildings, some big boiler.

Most people here in Romania, at least those living in apartments, are connected to the centralized heating system, water is heated in a big city plant and a huge network of insulated pipes delivers it to the buildings.

Don't you have public baths in your town, so you can go there and take a hot shower, get a massage, etc.?
