One, contemporary populations in Iran and Turkey are more related to each other than they are to populations living in the Arabian peninsula. Second, these two populations also seem to have higher levels of genetic affinities to southern European populations as compared to populations speaking Semitic languages."
See the "As a whole" and "Iran"? See them? Basically, when you consider Western Asians AS A WHOLE, they look most similar to South Europeans and the example in particular was Southern Italians. Secondly, Iran. Now people say that affinity to Europeans from Turks is due to "Slavic" ancestry. But Iranians don't have that and even Southern Italians possess little Northern/Eastern Europeam ancestry. So that CANNOT be a factor as to why Turks have an affinity to (certain) Europeans. There's also no good evidence that Turks from Thrace or Western Anatolia are highly divergent from Eastern Anatolian Turks or Anatolian Kurds.
People act like the arbitrary boundaries between Europe and West Asia are meaningful. They are NOT. Even WITHIN West Asia, there's a (notably) greater genetic distance between a Kurd vs Saudi as opposed to a Kurd vs Tuscan.
