I’ve been analyzing my bite and facial posture, and I’ve noticed something I’d like clarification on. When I place my teeth in what feels like my natural bite (with my molars lightly pressed together), my maxilla and mandible seem to rotate slightly clockwise. & lips seem to push out more in a “duck” way. This results in my midface appearing a bit longer, my chin sitting lower/back, and my jawline definition softening basically the opposite of what happens when I mew with proper tongue posture, where my face looks more counter-clockwise rotated with better projection. My question is, Why does the mandible and maxilla appear to rotate clockwise and reduce chin projection when the molars are pressed together in a natural bite? Is this due to the mechanics of occlusion, muscle activation (mentalis, etc.), or something related to how my maxilla is positioned? I’m trying to understand if this is purely an illusion of rotation, or if there’s an anatomical explanation behind it.
