In general I think any neck wider than your jaw/outside edge of your cheeks when looking straight ahead does make you look really dumb.

The above pictures actually look ridiculous.

Mason Frizzle looks a lot better with a thicker neck, but he still isn't like the above pictures, a good balance.

Although you lose a bit of appeal to JBs, I think you gain broader appeal overall.
