Need advice regarding orthodontic appliances

So I visited an orthodontist today and I already paid for my Invisalign. I told her that I also need a palate expander but she said I don’t need it. Then this foid says since I’m 17 I’ll only get 3 mm of expansion . I already told her that I have trouble nose breathing at night but she said it’s not needed. I’m going to visit another dentist but I need some advice. Should I get an expander and what type should I get. Also how do I convince my parents that I need it?

But removing teeth would cause me to recess. My father also didn’t need to remove his wisdom teeth so wouldn’t creating more space cause me not to remove the wisdom teeth?

if u really want one there are a few places where u send in a mold of ur teeth, u pay like 600 and theyll send u one, but u have to be the one to put it in, and u have to know when to stop, its just the risk kinda outweighs the result, but itll work nonetheless

Get multiple quotes. I had SEVERE crowding and a very narrow upper arch. The first place I went to just wanted to take like 5 teeth out. I started at 17 as well so my palate was mostly fused. Second place I went to only removed 2 (one of which wouldn't even descend and was floating somewhere in my skull, so I only got 1 actual tooth removed). They gave me a MARPE (plate with screwed drilled into the roof of your mouth with rod that slowly rips it apart). Sounds bad but it is pretty tame and was totally worth it. Never too late for expansion, that's a psyop, there are adult appliances they are just more complicated/painful/expensive

I don't know exactly how much it costed, but it was part of a plan with braces that costed around 7K

I didn't measure because I wasn't that deep into LM yet sadly, but it's really in your control. How the device works is there is a bar at the roof of your mouth, and the orthodontist gives you a special wrench to turn it. He'll tell you something like 1 turn a day for 30 days or whatever he decides, but you don't have to listen, if you want more expansion you can keep widening the bar and pushing your palate wider. I wouldn't recommend doing all the turns at once though, it makes you dizzy because of the pressure in your skull, if you decide to use it and go over the recommended amount either space it out (1 turn morning, midday, night) or do it for longer than he says. It's a linear increase in expansion though, so you can stop whenever you hit the target.
