Need help with advice for travelling

Taking a flight to India tomorrow night. Will land in Chennai, the following morning.

Have some family friends waiting at the airport to pick me up.

I need to fucking learn how to explore on my own.

I need to travel around as much as possible before I leave towards the end of March.

The dumbest thing I did the last time was to stay in the same few towns. Never again!

I'll be going from Chennai to Thiruvannamalai then leaving for Rajasthan within 2 days by bus from Bangalore.
