Here in fucking Italy there are people who go to Mcdonald's. You go around the corner and you find better things, but people go to Mcdonald's. Not to mention how easy it's to do that, 10 minutes at home.

It's better than what a foreigner would expect if you know where to go.
It's overrated because there are foods as good as pizza, but pizza here has more than a few variations
