I'm not sure, but its pretty much assured that asians/eskimo were the ancestors of native americans, who have even more neotenous traits. it might be that those traits like flatter faces and short skulls were due to females selecting the males who looked younger for longer. neoteny might have been the selecting feature, rather than the outcome.
