Men are liked and respected primarly by their competence, by what they're able to do - being physically strong and capable for an example, being a careermaxxed professional and so on. And then also by looks, especially nowadays (halo effect)

men dont typically like other men (competition for resources and females), unless they can be useful (thats why the main origin of male friendships is being colleagues). and women are the same - they know they have more choosing power so they prefer to associate with a guy who's competent and thus both able to provide material benefits and also be well-placed in the social hierarchy

being a jester is basically saying "i cant do anything worthwhile nor provide utility but i want you to like me please"

at first it might seem like its working to an extent but people subconsciously catch up on it and it backfires. the vicious toxicity they display when that happens seem to be just "they are mean to inferior people" but the vitriol also comes from the feeling the jester was trying to trick them. people go subconsciously like "what the fuck are you, an emotional beggar or something? i wont like you unless youre able to be useful"
