The only thing you can do is live as far below ur means as possible incase of layoff if ur a cs worker. That means live right next to ur office if ur in office, buy a bike not a car and bike to work so u dont have car payment, gas, car insurance etc. And live as minimalistically as possible with as little of shit as possible in case u need to move across the country for work (easy as fuck to move all ur shit in a rented van).

If you're set on tech/computer science you've gotta look into robotics, power electronics and networking (gotta go deeper than just CCNA or cloud certifications. 5G & 6G, automation, IOT etc). Sounds more daunting but these aren't fields where randoms can do bootcamps and acquire enough certifications to shit up the job market.
Obviously all depends on where you live.

Basically you need a real good understanding of electronics, networking and a few programming languages (Mostly python but obviously C++ and Java too). It's a wide field though, that's why I mention it. Could be writing apps for consumer products like smartwatches or you could be an embedded systems engineer, pure hardware.
Play with Raspberry PIs, learn cloud platforms and data visualization (tools like Grafana).
This is one of those fields where you need a lot of projects.

Earning potential has a huge range too. Niggas that just install iot systems at users homes obviously don't make much, but there's also engineers and analysts working for agricultural firms or something large scale like that making crazy money.

Ngl bros, CS is a pretty hard field to breakthrough and stay useful. You have to niche down and specialize while also collecting skills and recertifying basically constantly. And they've made it where you can't just be a quiet knowledgeable autist who's just good at his job, the networking and social media peacocking is out of control. Niggas with 10 different social medias, always posting projects and going to networking events daily will mog your github so bad .

A degree is basically bare minimum. It's an absolute nightmare.

This is a wake-up call for some people, in the present time most IT related jobs have ridicilious competition and finding projects to work on is fucking impossible, you need an unbelievable set of skills to even make a nice living off IT. In the present time, there are still some hopes of finding said jobs but in a decade or 2, that's going to be non-existent. Definitely no harm in still learning though, very useful skill set, just insane competition and thus making it harder to find work/projects.
