Do you have genetically slow hair growth or hair that caps out at a very short rate?

Chances are there’s nothing your doing wrong and it’s likely just genetics

Everyone’s hair grows for a certain time and then it eventually falls out. If you have normal genetics then ur hair should be able to grow for 5-7 years straight without stopping. Which means ur hair can get about upper back length (more or less)
However if you have 2 year length then that means ur hair is capped at about ear length
But some people hair even stops growing after a few months
This is a condition called “short anagen syndrome”

So if ur hair is constantly at a short length you need to extend this phase. You really don’t need to “trigger faster hair growth”. As hair grows generally at the same speed more or less what matters mainly is how long it grows before it sheds off

So if you want longer hair you need to block a molecule known as fgf5

Animals and humans with fgf5 mutations grow incredibly long eyelashes and hair

If you can block this gene, ur hair will pretty much never stop growing (it will eventually but significantly later then normal)

It even has huge effects on eyelashes

We even tested to prove it on its own is potent determinant for hair growth

FGF5 was identified as a determinant of hair length through seminal studies of FGF5 knock-out mice that displayed the angora long-haired phenotype and were observed to have an abnormally extended anagen phase

The basically did gene editing to lower fgf5 and the mice with the lower fgf5 had much longer hair

in a recent work by Higgins et al,19 FGF5 was identified as a crucial regulator of hair length in humans, with mutations in FGF5 underlying familial trichomegaly. Individuals with this mutation have longer hair and a greater proportion of hair follicles in anagen phase compared with ethnically matched controls

Source comes from this btw

so how do we actually do it?

One way is botanical extracts

We identified Sanguisorba officinalis root extract (SO extract) as an effective FGF5 inhibitor and demonstrated that SO extract enhanced the multiplication of outer root sheath cells in vitro. Further, in vivo analyses indicated that while SO extract did not enhance the onset of growth, it significantly reduced the number of telogen-phase follicles and increased hair length. We subsequently tested a topical solution containing SO extract in a cohort of human participants vs. a placebo group in a double-blind study over a 4-month period. We observed significantly reduced number of shed hairs (~70% less shed hairs) and decreased number of soft hairs (vellus), while hair growth rate and anagen:telogen (AT) ratio were increased. Subjective assessments of effectiveness indicated that the extract was rated as somewhat effective, effective or very effective for 74% of the treated group vs. 25% of the control. We have since marketed a product containing SO extract under the brand name évolis®.

Well how do I actually get my hands on a fgf 5 lnhibitor

"
From this result, the' following test compounds were considered as potent FGF-tiinhibitary active substances:
• Linalyl acetate • Nonanal · a-Terpineol • (-)-4-Terpinen-4-ol • (+)-4-Terpinen-4-ol • Piperitone, • (±)-4-Terpinen-4-ol."

luckily there is a company that made something that contains all of these potent ingredients in one blend and on top of that madeit easily penetrating into the scalp named evolis

if you didnt read the quote earlier evolis has actualy been published in pubmed passing clinical studies for its effectiveness

" it significantly reduced the number of telogen-phase follicles and increased hair length. "

something to note is in that same study something known as mtp3 completely mogged so extract which would be the active ingredient in evolis
1775110253120

even though so extract was potent it couldnt compare to the other ones

The problem is i scanned the whole study to find out what "mtp3" extract even is and they gatekept it purposely. (probably so companies cant use it yet and claim its effectiveness) however the second best was eucalyptus essential oil

"We also screened a number of isolates from the monoterpene family (Figure 1) including 3-carene, l-carveol, 1,8-cineole, β-citronellol, DL-rose oxide, geraniol, geranyl acetate, linalool, linalyl acetate, L-menthol, nerol, piperitone, α-terpineol, (−)terpinen-4-ol, (+)terpinen-4-ol and (±)terpinen-4-ol. The monoterpenoid isolates were sourced from Tokyo Chemical Industries (Tokyo, Japan) except for 3-carene, l-carveol and dl-rose oxide, which were kindly provided by Nippon Terpene Chemicals, Inc. (Kobe, Japan). A selection of the above will hereafter be referred to as MTP3–MTP6"

for any high iq cels who wanna investigate wtf it is go ahead but i couldnt find any details to give me hints on what it could be so we will just stick with eucalyptus essential oil

so in technicality crude euchalyptus essential oil should be stronger than so extract and in turn inhibit fgf5 but something to note is
- its not tested on actual human hair. its just tested on mouse hair cells that respond to fgf5.
- product effectiveness isnt always as simple as which specific chemical worked best in lab. a lot of times one product can be better than the other but a more formidable blend can overcome the effectiveness gap since a lot of product potency is mainly about penetration rather than actual product effectiveness.

so you could test out evolis or just test out the plant extract and see which one works but both should work

please note that this wont actually "speed up hair growth" almost nothing will do that. what it does though is extend the anagen phase meaning hair will grow longer. so it will not be noticeable for a while.

also test this shit on your eyelashes probably would have the same effect since we know fgf 5 works both on scalp and eyelashes

Isin't it still being studied? (mirin the thread btw)

I mean it’s already been proven to be effective but if you wanna wait till there’s more studies that’s fine
