CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) - Is a revolutionary technology that was invented in 2012, that makes it possible to edit your genes, it is derived from a natural bacterial defense mechanism, allowing scientists to precisely cut and modify DNA

1771533355507

How does it work?

  1. Scientists design a small piece of RNA called a guide RNA (gRNA) its kind of like a GPS locator
  2. The Cas9 enzyme follows the guide RNA to the correct spot and cuts the DNA
  3. Then the cell repairs it, Scientists use this repair process to do stuff like...
  • Turn a gene off (by disrupting it)
  • Fix a mutation
  • Insert a new Gene
  • Replace part of the DNA

⭐ By the time most of this generation becomes parents this technology could potentially be used more regularly ⭐

Pros of this Technology
- Can Treat Genetic Diseases
- Could Help Fight Cancer

- Can Help Prevent Inherited Diseases in Future Generations
- People can modify their kids to their desires
- Can Improve Crops and Food Supply

Cons of this Technology
- Ethical Concerns
- Unknown Long-term effects
- Possible problems that can occur if done incorectly during the operations that can ruin the outcome for the patient
- Inequality issues (if its expensive it will only be available to the rich and well the rich will just get even more richer)
- This sort of gene editing is permanent
- Possible misuse (can be misused by the consumer and even by the government 🤫)

My Overral Thoughts?

  • Personally I think it can be good for future development projects, BUT again there are a lot of possible things that can go wrong especially with the misuse of this technology. But again if its gonna help your kids ascend then who cares.. Right?

What are your Thoughts on this? Have you already known about this technology or is this new news for you? Would you consider this for your future kids?

If this is commonly used or not extremely rarely used I might do this if I become a parent but it'll probably be 100k+ to get it done knowing what they've done with other stuff similar, if it is available to the public and not bank breaking then it could be really misused with some weirdos creating clones and weird shit but they'll probably have some sort of background checks and more for something like this

Already seen the documentary abt it. They don’t want to use it for cosmetic purposes bc ā€œmuh eugenics, that’s badā€

I think in abt 10 years it’ll be normalized and everyone will be genetic editing

Some people believe this could be used for ethnic cleansing by getting rid of diffrent kinds of races. but i think thats a stretch, there will definetly be some precautions when the editing process occurs on someones cells.

They’ve already used it on 2 Chinese girls to prevent them from getting HIV.

IK they’re doing it for sicle cell, and altering pig genes to give them human hearts

Pretty sure it will stay medical until they get really good at it, then they will start on cosmetics

Races will never go extinct. Conservative race lovers will all believe their race is the best and refuse to change those genes

ive seen what they did to the 2 chinese girls its pretty cool that it works, and yea it will take some time for it to get approved and shit a but I find it really cool how far technology has been developing.

It has some potential, but you'll have to have a decent sum of money to afford that. By the time that most people in this forum have kids, this technology would likely still not be widely available (and if so would be only affordable to the uber rich, given the overall low supply). It's still interesting to look into however.

That’s why you become the rich by the time it’s available. It’d either you are rich and can use it or not and your kids become prey
