I’d argue that it is more beneficial to grow up middle class than new money.

Kids who grew up rich lack the work ethic and drive that would be present in typical kids. Differences in lifestyle can also create social separation, due to an inability to relate with one’s peers. This wouldn’t affect anyone with old money however, as they would have peers with whom they share life experiences with. Growing up rich also elevates perceived potential. With potential comes expectations, and inflation of one’s perceived potential due to wealth will also inflate the expectations they have to deal with. This often leads for many of these kids to experience tremendous pressure, as well as continued failure. The combination of this pressure and routine failure is detrimental in regards to mental health.

In short, growing up new rich can be damaging, because these kids will often times lack drive and community, whilst dealing with tremendous pressure and continued failings.

I would like to clarify that wealth is typically an overwhelming positive, but there are still drawbacks in certain areas.
