tldr?

basically the author says she thinks the books were written by ghost writers and that jk rowling is an actor hired by Warner Bros and bloomsbury publishing

jk rowling was a poor single mother who supposedly wrote the books on napkins from cafés jfl

On the whole fantasy vs history debate, I enjoy both tbh. I enjoy works about history because of the fact that it has happened. It gives it a sort of genuine and tangible value that is relative to the world you're living in now, like oh shit, the American revolution happened and these people were the cause of it, and this is how they did it. Great events in history > great events in fiction

As to fiction, even though the world is fictitious, the characters often have a human psychology to them which makes them relatable. Pitting characters against fictitious events and seeing how they react opens up a realm of possibilites and exploration of social behaviour that you just don't get in raw history books where it can all be very specific. It's the reason why myths and stories have been created since time immemorial, to create something larger than life, something to look up to and something to relate to. In myths often time the places are real but the events are exaggerated to create a more awe-inspiring reality that will tell a better story

I'm biased because the writing is extremely soy, even books like American psycho are written in a soy manner, it's just the nature of this books because you have to write too many details in order to get the atmosphere right. a good show don't tell, a good history book will give it to you straight without personal opinion or fillers. but fiction books..my god it's like 90% filler, in order to create 1/8 of a scene it takes a whole page.

@Pythagoras I'm a fan of history as well and it's pretty easy to get into a topic but fanatasy books require more frankness

Same, i know exactly about what you mean by soy, like the overly dramatic way of describing how a sofa in some cunts house looks like for 3 pages, meanwhile based Herodotus:

"This king Sesostris divided the land
among all Egyptians so as to give each
one a quadrangle of equal size and to
draw from each his revenues, by
imposing a tax to be levied yearly. But
everyone from whose part the river
tore anything away, had to go to him
to notify what had happened; he then
sent overseers who had to measure
out how much the land had become
smaller, in order that the owner might
pay on what was left, in proportion to
the entire tax imposed. In this way, it
appears to me, geometry originated,
which passed thence to Hellas."

I agree, fiction is hit or miss. It needs a strong protagonist based on a relatable archetype that will take you through the world. I will say though there is some good fiction. Mostly those based on actual European history

Name couple of history books you liked
I didn't read many and you wouldn't them cause they are in German but I mostly just read articles about events online and create my own image based on that
I don't like these kinda books cause the author mostly penetrates you with his opinion, these books mostly tell you more about the author than about the actual events and the context will be biased on the authors opinion
Or do you mean sources?

Naah, reading Herodotus or Livy is much more interesting, cause you are hearing the exact words of a person that is dead for 2000 years describing the world around him, its cool af

My first book ever was about some mouse and cheese (age 7 or something) kids book. my dad forced me to read it and tested me but it was obvious he didn't read a single word, so I just larped. he was like....'yeah? and he liked the cheese?' and I'm like hell yeah dad and he's like 'my boy, you can go play now'
