My mum has been aware of my ND traits since i was 2 months old. I have siblings so she was aware how different I was compared to them at my age. Everyone she went to for support would treat her like shes some schizo. She would basically just be told i'm a baby, it's completely normal etc etc.
she wasn't taken serious so after like 3 years of trying she gave up.
neurodivergency ruined my life, especially as a child. I wouldn't even speak to family members or want to be seen by them. Every single school day was a massive issue, always causing, crying, arguments etc. This went on from the age of 4 till 14 It wasn't fair for any of my family. My mum would be left with this guilt day in and day out and I would always be super upset, constantly anxious, depressed etc.
My mum wasn't ever strict, she wouldn't lock me out, shout or idk do anything, but as a ND kid i constantly felt different to everyone and felt like only my mum understood me so i would never go against what she said out of fear of losing her and having no one to understand me completely. I could've easily just skipped basically every day and she wouldn't have gone crazy or done anything at all but as a kid it didn't really register till the age of like 14 that i can just go against her / what she says.
at the age of like 11 my mum started trying again as i was getting older and nothing was getting easier / changing. It was still constant arguments. After about 20+ doctor appointments of being told it was just anxiety and i will grow out of it i finally got referred to CAMHS - Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. However, it got basically nowhere. My school wouldn't support the referral as they said i wasn't autistic because i masked it.
(genuine cagefuel as i've literally had over 10 interactions in the last 6 months (with people i've previously never spoke to) and within 10 minutes they've asked if I'm autistic and when i explain the situation they say 'how has it taken that long for them to come to that conclusion')
In school I wasn't ever really bullied much, kids would make fun of me for being so quiet, always having my head down, and basically just for not wanting to be seen. I'd have a few issues where kids would make me a laughingstock but it wasn't ever a big issue and wouldn't last longer than a day or 2.
i wasn't some weird kid that stinks of shit / body odor that is disgusting so i think that helped. prolly just cope though JFL
anyway, I am now 17 and have basically just given up with trying to get ANY form of support / medication / diagnosis.
I will always wonder how I didn't get some form of prescription for at the very least anxiety medication considering i wouldn't even speak to family members at times. fuck knows but there's absolutely ZERO point in complaining when indiaMART exists.
I have been denied from FOUR different autism referral centres / providers and have since started purchasing / using indiaMART meds to cope with my neurodivergence.
There is ZERO point in crying about your situation as it gets you nowhere. I wake up every single day wishing i was NT and didn't have the countless issues I do.
Do i get upset thinking about it? Yes obviously, but I won't just sit there and wait for someone to spoon feed me and tell me it's okay to cope as that's what I waited my entire childhood for and NOTHING came from it, no one came to save me, no one even provided me the bare minimum of help (@NHS FUCK YOU)
It's unfortunate and it is depressing to think about, I know. but go out there and save yourself, no one is coming to comfort you and this thread should have taught you that.
Sometimes it does affect me a lot more than other times. As no kid should ever have to go through this depressing cycle of never being taken serious and being treated as a laughingstock for everyone else to get a thrill out of. I will forever despise all the people that never took me serious when i needed them to most. But it'll never matter as they aren't there to truly support or to try and understand you. They are there for a wage. Nothing more.
It is truly over and that's okay.
