As we know many Teenagers Vape, smoke or take snus which all of them contain Nicotine.
People think it only Damages your Lungs so your Cardio gets worse
BUT its Way more than that:
-Increased Heart Rate
-Frys your dopamine receptors
-can reduce Bone-growth A LOT (we will get into that later)
These are just 3 of many many more...
1.Nicotine effect on Bones
Nicotine can slow bone growth by disrupting the normal function of osteoblasts, the cells responsible for building new bone. At the same time, it reduces blood flow by narrowing blood vessels, which limits the supply of oxygen and nutrients needed for healthy bone development. Nicotine also affects the growth plates, where bones grow in length, by reducing the activity of cartilage cells (chondrocytes). In addition, it increases oxidative stress and interferes with growth-related hormones such as IGF-1. Although nicotine does not completely stop bone growth, long-term exposure can slow bone development, reduce bone strength, and delay healing.
Thats why most teenagers are short nowadays (genetics play a role too)
And if you say "But there are tall vapers at my school" stfu
like i said they probably have great genetics.
So if you wanna get taller or have more Bonemass stop smoking, you can do whatever you want when u stop grwing but right now its crucial not to smoke or smth.
2. Misunderstandings
Many people probably will say: "okay i will smoke less"
this too can work but still even low doses of nicotine can have negative effects on bone growth because nicotine is biologically active at small concentrations. It can reduce osteoblast activity, decrease blood flow by narrowing blood vessels, and impair the function of chondrocytes in the growth plates. Although the effects are smaller than with high doses, repeated exposure over time can still interfere with normal bone development and bone healing. Current research has not established a safe level of nicotine for growing adolescents, so even low doses may pose a risk to healthy skeletal development. It doesnt care about doses its about iwhen you do it and how often that means you should completely stop smoking if youre still Growing.
3.How to counter
Melatonin.
Some studies suggest that melatonin may partially reduce nicotine-induced bone damage because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In animal studies, melatonin improved osteoblast activity and reduced oxidative stress caused by nicotine. However, these findings come mainly from rat studies, and there is currently no strong evidence that melatonin can prevent nicotine-related bone growth impairment in humans. The most effective way to protect bone growth remains avoiding nicotine exposure altogether. This doesnt mean that you can just keep/start smoking its just somethign worth to try or even better quitting completely which works 100x better than that.
I hope you liked this thread and thanks for reading also this comes from a smoker himself but im quiting too dw
