Welll English can be both an ethnicity and nationality.

Anglo Saxon however is the ethnicity though and only those of that tribe can claim Anglo Saxon. I mean even me in a sense I am “English” in a national sense.

This is true for any nation. The terms English and Anglo-Saxon have historically, always, been synonymous. Only now are folks more lenient towards the line.
