I have seen this firsthand in my home town.

There is a reason why alcohol and tobacco in minors is so high in places like this.

No one does anything to stop it because it benefits big corporations directly.

Ehh. Probably the shittiest place I've been is rural Cambodia, which is about as bad as it gets in terms of poverty. I was there volunteering for a charity, and I saw some pretty bad shit. However, there was still joy present in the lives of the people there. For example, one of my fondest memories of the trip was playing Jenga with a 10-year-old Cambodian kid with Cereberal Palsy. He loved it. Being a literally dirt-poor disabled kid in Cambodia is about as bad a spawn as you can have, yet he was still as upbeat as anyone else. Same with his parents, although they looked a little older than their years; they still had hope.

I've not been to an active warzone for obvious reasons, but I agree the societal hope is probably reduced in said countries.

Not saying that hope is non-existent in these nations, it is just very low relative to the negativity.

Acceptance also plays a big role in terms of how your willingly to live in these sort of conditions.
