If u have a recessed jaw (also called a weak jaw or retruded mandible), there are a few different ways to fix or improve it, depending on how bad it is and what kind of results u want.

1. Figure out how recessed it actually is

First, u gotta know whether u just have a slight recession or if it’s full-on skeletal. Some people think they have a recessed jaw, but it’s really just fat under the chin, bad posture, or a weak chin instead of the whole jaw.

Look at side profile pics of urself:
  • Is ur chin way behind ur lips/nose?
  • Does ur lower jaw look small or underdeveloped?
  • Do u have an overbite?
  • If yes, then u might have a real recessed jaw.

2. Mewing
Now I don’t rlly believe in all the mewing stuff but I heard it worked for some ppl so why not talk abt it as well. First This stuff won’t give u crazy results unless u start really young, but it can help a bit with definition if u’re consistent. Keep ur tongue on the roof of ur mouth, close ur teeth lightly, and breathe through ur nose.
It won’t fix bone structure, but it might give a cleaner jawline or help with forward growth if u’re still under 18 or so.

3. Orthodontics / Braces / Functional appliances
If u have a misaligned bite or overbite, an orthodontist might be able to help bring the lower jaw forward. Things like:
  • Braces with elastics
  • Herbst appliance
  • Invisalign (in mild cases)
This only works if u’re still growing, mostly under 18–21. After that, braces alone can’t move the jawbone itself.

4. Jaw surgery (Orthognathic surgery)
This is the real fix for a severely recessed jaw. It’s called mandibular advancement surgery. They literally cut the jawbone, move it forward, and screw it into place. It’s a big surgery, but it can totally change ur facial profile and fix functional problems like breathing or chewing.
U usually need to go through orthodontics first, then surgery, then more braces after.

5. Chin implant (genioplasty)
If ur problem is more with a weak chin and not the whole jaw, u might just need a chin implant or sliding genioplasty. It’s less extreme than full jaw surgery and can make a big difference visually.

6. Facial fat loss and jawline exercises
If u’re overweight or have fat under the chin, sometimes just cutting fat will make ur jaw look sharper. Chewing hard gum or doing neck/jaw exercises can help tighten things up, but don’t expect miracles.
