Btw I also like to show the "no free will" argument to normies, but after all we have developed an evolutionary illusion of free will, which was for some reason necessary for our survival. To be defeatist is at least stupid, to will to be defeated. You can't will what you will, but tell me: do you really want a bad life?
We know that the universe isn't deterministic, be it quantum superposition or anything RANDOM that does happen in the universe. With this in mind, it could very well be worth trying. At the end of the day, when it's going to be truly over you will remember that you tried your best, and if you won't - you will regret not trying more.
