I’m on day 19 of my no shampoo journey. My scalp is getting super itchy. I have dry dandruff (tiny white flakes caused by dry scalp) but yesterday i saw a big chunk of dandruff in my hair.

The chunk wasn’t yellow, so I suppose it’s not a fungus and just oily dandruff caused by more oil production in my scalp???

What do I do? I think I will first oil my scalp with smth like olive oil and rinse it out and see how my scalp reacts to that. It’s really bad vro I have white flakes everywhere…

Had the same problem and Shampoo would make it worse.

I used Ketozolin 5% + Aloe Vera at the edges and it worked INSTANTLY.

I went from snowing on the school table to not even getting any flakes on my black shirts:feelsez:

U don't need any shampoo for that...
Yeah but im very sure that I dont have a fungus, ketozolin is for the fungus type of dandruff and not for a dry scalp, it would worsen the dry scalp

Damn, I did a lot of Aloe Vera for the itchiness. Idk how much it helped for dandruff, but it's REALLY nice. Maeby try it

Foreshadowing: I had a super super itchy scalp and a lot of dandruff so yesterday night I put olive oil in my hair and then I washed it out after 20 minutes with normal warm water but only water. Obviously today its still in my hair but after I woke up I got more dandruff

1. What type of dandruff is that: Dry scalp or Fungus dandruff? (@eyezen @Kara )
2. I hope the norwoodreaper aint coming for me :feelsgiga: (@combatingNorwooding )

I have a super dry scalp so they dandruff might be caused by the olvie oil?? But that would mean that I have that fungus type of dandruff since it lives of oil and not the dry scalp type of dandruff?? Im so confused

I probably will use shampoo to wash the olive oil out okay??

@Kara respond to my previous messages pls in this thread, i asked you stuff

We have very different hair types. I have 2b-2c hair and i style it like curly hair, broccoli like hairstyles. When I use shampoo my scalp gets super super dry, and in general is dry and my hair is very very frizzy. As you know i get a lot of dry dandruff caused by a dry scalp.
So no shampoo should help my scalp produce more oils

Wtf please elaborate on that, i think this can save my hair. Because I once was somewhere where the altitude was around 2500m of altitude (8 202 ft) and i was there for one weak and everytime after showering my hair looked so goooooood, i always thought that it was the towel there but now since you said that its the water, then it could be the water let me look up.
Okay yes u were fucking right chatgpt just confirmed that the place were i was probably has soft water to middle soft water :love::love:
what can i do to make the minerals go away in my shower water???
Check if the area you currently live in has hard water or not in google.

As for getting rid of hard water, I think you'd have to try showerhead filters specifically for hard water. I don't think they can filter out minerals 100% but it should get the job done.

There's water softener installments like reverse osmosis and others but they're meant for the whole house and probably expensive as hell.

About the silicone part
Not all silicones are equal. Some silicones wash out with just water, and some can't be washed out with just water.
For example, silicones from a heat protectant spray tend to be non-water-soluble whereas shampoos have lighter silicones that can removed with water.

I keep forgetting you have curly hair tho my bad.

I think you actually have seb derm (fungus). Coz like this is a consistent pattern I'm seeing. Everytime you use olive oil, you get more dandruff the next day. And in the pictures, it looks yellowish.

You have to use a shampoo for now or else it will get worse and just don't use olive oil or coconut oils

Also sry for the late reply man

Okay then if I have fungus then using shampoo will make it go away

If I use the anti dandruff shampoo whilst having dry dandruff then the shampoo should make the dandruff worse since it dries it out right??
So I can use that as indicator of the type I have???

Yeah that should work.
Also if you go back to a shampoo routine you should probably use a deep conditioner (instead of olive oil) once or twice a week since your hair gets dry.

Isn’t that the same as a conditioner?

I used conditioner daily in the past

If you have long hair you can use shampoo as long as you only target your scalp. If your hair is not that long.. idk I never really had scalp problems. My head feels clean with natural leave in conditioner once in a while and for shampoo I use a mix of an egg a little olive oil and very little honey. You could try that. Also you could just wait the scalp irritation should eventually go away I‘ve been shampoo-free for over 4 months and I gotta say: best decision in my life my hair feels healthy and my hairtype changed from really straight to wavy.

my skin got so itchy i had to use shampoo today

Yesterday I used the anti dandruff shampoo. Today I had a lot lot more big flake dandruff than i ever had. Normaly its the tiny white flakes but today its the big flakes. My scalp is way less itchy but my hair quality looks destroyed. My hair is saggy and weak, on my no shampoo journey it was strong and resistant, yet now its 30% more frizzy even though i havent changed the products i use in the morning aka the shampoo absolutely rapes my hair everytime (water)
Any interpretation of this @Kara what should i do? Im now tending more to no shampoo again since im seeing the difference in hair quality, yet at the same time my scalp gets so itchy at day 19 :feelsgiga:

Btw the anti-dandruff shampoo has ketoconazole right?
Also the flakes shouldnt be a big problem. You didn't use shampoo for 20 days so the the flakes that were already there are detaching now.
Go like a week or more without shampoo and see if your scalp gets itchy again
