No upper teeth show while laughing?

When I laugh my upper front teeth are almost not visible, making me look like a dumb fuck. My Orthodontist plans nothing about changing it (i got braces), he doesnt want to change the teeth vertically. My Philtrum is around 18mm, but i dont think its about the Philtrum because even if i lift my upper lip with my fingers i still cant reach the edge of the upper front teeth. Any ideas?
