Sandler almost always portrays himself in the movies as a jester but a badass one that will fuck you up if you try messing with him (dozens and dozens of scenes where some guy thinks he can mog sandler's character just because he's a oofy doofy but ends getting beaten up or mogged back) - so his jestering comes across not as submissive but as confidence, an almost blunt honesty or a "I dont need to take stuff seriously, because I can handle myself"

His characters are more like the main characters of 80s comedies, Ferris Bueller style - fellow Jewish comedic actor Matthew Broderick was probably one of Sandler's greatest inspirations - and early 90s, specially since Sandler is an early 90s actor himself, probably the main comedic actor of the 90s.
