I've tried coping by telling myself that I'm not worthless because I'm a writer. And tbf I AM better at writing than at least 90% of the wannabes. Jfl the fact alone I can even finish my stories at all means I'm already ahead of the curve imo.

As much as normies pretend to give a shit about being a contributing member of society, they only care if there are vanity-related reasons to do so. If an incel tells somebody that they're a writer, absolutely nobody is going to care.

I've done research into how to get published. Unless you're already a big-name author, publishers will only give you a chance if you're already popular on places like social media because otherwise, they'll assume your work doesn't have an audience. How do you have a social media presence? By being good looking or at least not ugly.

You're coping. Looks matter for everything.

EDIT: I should also mention that publishing is really corrupt and that personal biases and nepotism influence what does and doesn't get published.
