I used to think that kids from divorced parents must've also had parents who were abusive to them due to the stress and conflict involved. And that I would have similarities, things in common with them. Similar pains and trauma.

Only later did I find out that the vast majority of divorced parents didn't abuse their kids during the process and I have nothing in common with them as they still had good childhoods despite of their parents divorcing.

As a kid untill age ~12 or so, I was always under the impression that kids my age lived at least SOMEWHAT similar lives to that of my own:

Girls didn't like them, parents didn't care about them, poverty, bullying, high expectations, excessive punishment from teachers and the list goes on and on.
Then I came to realize that it was just me living this dog-shit life and I became increasingly and rapidly estranged from my peers over the next years as people had their normal development while I was stuck in survival mode having to deal with all this crap. Trying to cope in some way or form with all this pain.
