Especially now with the internet, you can save memories onto computers and watch them 10 years later. It's the closest thing we have to time travel.
I'm currently very very nostalgic at the moment, specifically for the emo/goth scene of the early 2000's because I always thought the girls were hot and I had reached secondary school when Skrillex came out. Which in my opinion was the last dying breath of the movement.
One memory I have as a small boy is being at a playpark around 2006/2007 with my friend. It was late in the year so probably around september/october time. The orange leaves were on the ground everywhere and the sky was grey and hazy.
Sitting on a swingset were two emo's: a boy and a girl making out with eachother whilst listening to emo music on one of those large 'portable' stereos with the big handle on them. It is such a picturesque image in my mind and considering the timeframe it was a very significant memory.
2006/07 was the peak time for emodom. We will never get that back and my little 7 or 8 year old brain logged it as a significant event in my life for reasons unknown until recently. Clearly my brain knew in advance that this era was not something I was to experience during my prime, but to see it at the beginning of my life, and the twilight of its.
I saw the last embers of that era and I will never forget it. I also remember as a child seeing the emo kids sitting in a church ground at night, the girls wearing all black or all black with white knee high socks. Bright blue or green hair in that 'emo' style:
I'll never forget that.
