Intro: NT people statistically and biologically have a measurable difference in how their brain is wired compared to ND people. This is because mental disorders have been studied on various factors such as common sense and social cognition while rationality is preserved. So in short, those terms I mentioned basically mean how a persons interacts, perceive and interpret reality in a daily life.
1: The purpose of this thread is to explain how imitating or using phrases such as “im so nd bro” is very different and complex on to what it actually means and how impacts someone in their daily functioning, and i’ll be simply introducing basic concepts written down simply just for anybody to not complicate themselves.
2. Common sense: In this context common sense does not mean basic everyday knowledge, however it does mean a person’s intuitive, self-evident framework. It allows humans to navigate daily without overanalysing it. When this is disrupted (typically seen in schizophrenia) a person may experience a loss of vital contact to the world which may cause alienated awareness, heightened awareness of aspects of experience that would normally remained pre-supposed and a decline in the feeling of existing as a subject of awareness - > (dissociation).
[Simply: The automatic background processes is of your daily life suddenly feels hyper-visible, while your core sense of being active may feel detached.]
3. Social cognition: Social cognition means the specific mental processes on how people are required to decode, understand and respond to social signals from other people. Basically, its the brain’s ability to process social information (like reading facial expressions) and inferring peoples thoughts or motives (Affective theory of mind) and understanding social context.
4. Rational preservation: The person’s ability to reason, use logic and draw valid conclusions still remain intact even if a person is experiencing psychological distress. It’s not always disrupted a person can still solve math problems, logical puzzles, or abstract arguments a person can STILL be able to perfectly process them. But when it is observed in mental illness their internal logic justifies their unusual holding beliefs.
