I hold a junior position at my workplace and lately have been introduced to other departments, I met a really chill guy nearish my age (only like 5 years my senior) and he was pajeet too like me. I've seen him around before and have always given him a nod (ethnics will know what I'm on about, when you see another ethnic) so we get to speaking and he immediately starts badmouthing the leadership team. I am in good graces with leadership, and I am aware they are somewhat incompetent and have saved them humiliation a few times as well as compliment them to their superiors/external parties (who are responsible for observing). I've curated a good image so far to the leadership and I've done this on purpose for a reason.

So anyways young paki bro was just bad mouthing them and shit, and was like "yeah don't tell anyone". I just said "yes of course", and spoke a little about the leadership team saying they sometimes mess up, but they are okay and don't really get mad at me.

My mentor too, he always speaks badly about our department leader to me. I am on good terms with the department leader, and he often tells me how the department is struggling and shit as well as how some people are letting down the department.

Basically WHY THE FUCK is everyone just gossiping to me? I never spread stuff, and usually try to defuse it or somewhat agree but backtrack and say that they're overall pretty good and that xyz issue happens rarely. Paki bro is pretty chill and felt like it was first time I had a proper conversation with someone - he is of similar socioeconomic upbringing/status to me too.

Am I going down a dangerous path? Or do people just generally trust me and hence I am told this shit

Its normal, wagecucking is boring so people gossip alot and bitch about other staff

This is the way.

never badmouth anyone infront of someone you don't trust 100%
let other people unload but you try to stay above it.
agree with them and make them feel heard but be as non committal as possible

I met a grown white woman who had never eaten mexican food before
Never had a burrito and she wasn't from a village she was from London JFL

Some people just have such different upbringings.

Am I going down a dangerous path? Or do people just generally trust me and hence I am told this shit
its a good sign
people do this to try and build a bond with you.
they wouldn't bitch about other infront of you if they didn't like you
just don't get caught out talking shit yourself.

I mean like my mentor has seen me cage at the state of the department before, so she's very chill with me and just openly bitches about the shittiness of the situation and how it's dept leader's fault. I normally just be like "oh right, really?" and sort of give NPC tier responses. I cannot tell if I am liked in my department or not, I think I am. Most people trust me to an extent and will tell me shit about their personal lives, and I try to help people out/my seniors. Usually asking them when they are most available for a meeting and offering to help them with stuff.

You don't have to sit the fence because sometimes that can make the person feel like you're not on their side

Its best to kinda act like they are making good points that you never thought about and even kinda encouraging their rant but just don't jump in with them if that makes sense.

Ideally, you play the situation like they are giving you important points and you are being convinced by them to dislike the person they dislike. So they get to rant on and on and you listen intently and act like they are making good points and their reasoning for being annoyed is justified.

This way they feel like you respect them, listen to them and feel close to you.

Its good to kinda give unimportant personal details about yourself. Rather than not opening up.
It humanises you to people.
You want to paint yourself as someone who overcame obstacles in life. So you can even make up shit like oh my mum was sick and i had to do so and so.

Even niko does this if you notice, he will mention how he struggled when it was just him and his mum and would probably bring up IRL about how he works hard on his businesses to provide back what she did for him.
Because it makes you a sympathetic character and reduces peoples envy of you.

The other thing which i think you already have down, is just not be a miserable pessimistic shit.
Most people are downers. and everyone loves being around someone who seems happy.
Because they not only make you feel better, you also think they have some sort of secret and people think being around them they can learn it too.

I do agree yeah, but i try not to go overboard. Like my mentor will just continue ranting, on and on, I guess because he's seen me cage at the situation of our dept - something he agrees with. He probs trusts me tbh.

My dept leader knows about my background and shit, since we both come from fairly working class backgrounds and so we both have a general understanding of each other. I give some details about my life, like my hobbies and shit. But nothing too serious.

I am pretty optimistic and tend to listen to problems, but never offer any solutions. I don't cause people trouble in the office too. The receptionists and stuff like me a lot too
werent u a teacher nigga
still am, office politics is everywhere

Read the 48 laws of power. Stay in the middle. Listen but don't take sides. Your only allegiance is too yourself
