Ok to not wear retainers?

I've heard of people getting braces done and not wearing their retainers so they can mew at night but for me i don't know if i can as i'm wearing retainers because I have finished wearing my palate expander several months ago. So I want to know if it's ok to not wear at night so I can mew

it's almost as if it were fine to not wear it they wouldn't make you wear one

ever thought about that ?
