no its not comparable at all because they only got other emo / scene chicks. they were popular in their subculture but not more popular than jocks or frat boys. nowadays e-boys are at the top of the food chain and get the absolute top tier women in high school

Goth wasn't that big, it was super niche, most guys who listened to goth would've been considered faggots, so not many did, those that did probably got a +2 rating from social scene alone. Men didn't listen to pretty boys, they listened to Nu-metal, punk, classic rock or gangster rap, it was a much more masculine time. People were still getting KTFO in sports like the NFL, NHL etc. and the commentators/fans would cheer ferverishly, not giving much thought to the CTE just delivered. Men and women had separate playlists, they didn't overlap as much as they do now.

Not sure if you are confusing goth with grunge, grunge was huge late 90s, Nirvana was massive, Pearl Jam etc. that was chad/stacy music.
