"...Beauty is a form of genius—is higher, indeed, than genius, as it needs no explanation. It is of the great facts of the world, like sunlight, or spring-time, or the reflection in dark waters of that silver shell we call the moon. It cannot be questioned. It has its divine right of sovereignty. It makes princes of those who have it.

The true mystery of the world is the visible, not the invisible..."
The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde

This classic novel was published in 1890 and its words still ring true today.
What part of it is especially fitting for our way of seeing the world? That beauty is self-evident, and we cannot really question it.
Our brain makes a snap decision about someone being attractive in half a second. We evolved that way for a reason. Entire pathways of our brain are devoted to this very purpose. Rewiring them is impossible, as is convincing people against it. The "beautiful at every size" movement will never take hold of men's preferences because it goes against our every instinct.

We can spend hours nitpicking on degrees of beauty and attractiveness, but at the end of the day the world is divided into two main categories: people who are beautiful, and people who are not. Be reminded of this next time you talk about MTNs and HTNs.
