Some artists can be millionaires through their own exceptionnal talent & work,

but to be a billionaire, you have to conduct business and valorize your capital through the work of others.

People generally respect and submit to the powerful. In the past, power was recognized through physical strength.

In modern societies, money has often replaced personal strength in the eyes of the people because the rich wield real power and influence in the government and economy. It's a modern evolution of a very natural behaviour. And you can even see it in every developing nation with a blooming wealthy class.

They are not necessarily seen as oppressors by the public as a whole. Sure, you can say Apple is an oppressor with their factory conditions in China. Amazon may be an oppressor with their insane quotas and how hard they work Fulfillment Center employees.

But it's not society-wide, and people love their Apple products, or the speed and ease of buying on Amazon (or Alibaba). People won't organize against the hands that feed them their consumer goods. And, again, there is the incorrect notion among most that to be rich means a person has to be intelligent and strong. Humans love strong leaders. Or at least anyone who gives the appearance of strength. If the leader is strong then the people think they are strong. I do pretty much agree with your statements on how the poor are treated (i.e. that it's their fault).

I've seen politicians pander to audiences by saying they are the soon-to-be-rich as if everyone will acquire great wealth under their leadership if they just apply themselves.

People love the rich because they want to be rich, themselves. They vote for things that will only benefit the rich because they hope it will one day apply to them, as well.
