I don't think so. I was a pretty bad meth addict but I've never been depressed. Even when I ran out of money and found myself stuck in a 3rd world country for six months. Did meth for five years but haven't touched it since 2018. Nightmare where I was about to shoot up and woke up with no gear stopped pretty much completely after six months.

You're right man, alcohol is just a nasty cope. It's only something you'd enjoy if your life is a piece of shit and you got no drive.
The first time I got sick from alcohol, I quit that garbage instantly and have never felt need to drink again.
It's same with drugs too, you can't get addicted if your life is good, addiction is just you being chronically fucked up and remembering that drugs can make it go away for a short time.
