Misinformation.
It is popular here to advise everyone without exception to take dutasteride as if it were just ascorbic acid. I want to talk about one danger of dutasteride (and potentially any drug that blocks DHT).
First, let's figure out what dutasteride is, why it is recommended, and how it works.
Dutasteride is a strong DHT blocker. It blocks two types of DHT (as trivial as it may sound, types 1 and 2).
So, to get to the point: The danger of dutasteride is that it increases estrogen hormones and this correlation occurs only with it. And this is not a small increase in the test results, but an increase in fat mass, gynecomastia and a decrease in sexual function. Finasteride doesn't cause these effects. Why? Because it doesn't inhibit the production of type 1 DHT.
So, should you not take dutasteride? No, rather, when it makes sense. Dutasteride can reduce Norwood levels by 1-2 points, while finosteride only stops alopecia. If you have already lost a significant amount of hair, I would recommend taking examestane along with dutasteride (this is the only aromatase blocker that is safe in this case). To avoid having to take dutasteride immediately after turning 18, I recommend starting a preventative regimen of 1 mg of finasteride per day.
