How to Optimize Your Digestion
Digestion is very important if you want a productive offseason, a good digestive system is necessary for optimized nutrient uptake (which is what we want in an offseason as well as on a cut/prep). A poor gut microbiome can also lead to insulin resistance and worsen it (keep that in mind when you’re choosing your next “cheat” meal/refeed).
Key Recommendations:
• If on any GLPs and struggling with gut motility, supplement with 12.5-25mcg of T3 AM fasted.
• Add foods with digestive enzymes:
• Pineapple (contains bromelain) – helps break down proteins.
• Papaya (contains papain) – helps break down proteins, reduces bloating and indigestion.
• Ginger – also great for digestion.
—————
• Do NOT skip your 10-20 minute digestion walks right after your meals.
• 20-30ml of ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) diluted in a big glass of warm water on an empty stomach can aid digestion and get your gut moving.
• 100-200ml of aloe vera juice supports digestive comfort (also has antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins).
• Stay well hydrated.
• 200ml of bone broth aids digestion and nutrient absorption.
• Use a good quality digestive enzyme complex.
• Add fermented foods like pickles, kimchi, sauerkraut to your meals – these improve digestion and gut microbiome.
• Have more variety in your diet (don’t just stick with the same 5 foods). Re-introducing different foods helps.
• Eat 20-30g of fiber and don’t skip fruits.
