Castor oil contains something called ricinoleic acid which influences the prostaglandin ep3 and ep4 receptors. These two receptors are responsible for the activation of prostaglandin e2, which we know is an important mechanism for the growth and regulation of hair (also mentioned as one of the mechanisms of growth in minoxidil, but castor oil is not as effective as minoxidil).

Not sure about that, just blot the excess if any has contact with the skin and don't apply copious amounts of it at once
