oral minoxidil once or twice daily

I was thinking that splitting, say, a 2.5mg dose of minoxidil into 2 separate doses, day and night, would mitigate side effects. But I've heard somewhere that if you don't reach a certain threshold in blood concentration, the minoxidil's effects are severely diminished? pls lmk
