it wasn't the average of what people rate themselves but the average iq on the forum

dunning-kruger doesn't relate sinxe its individual to themself, not individual to community

A lot of people present themselves as more knowledgeable than they appear, rating themselves way higher than they deserve, or the people who overexaggerate their iq, which is where Dunning–Kruger comes in. sure people are overconfident and think they are smarter then they are, but that doesn't affect averages

dunning kruger has no correlation or relation to the average, the only way it could ever relate is if we actually tried to find out the average iq on this forum and it was self reported

It’s related because the overconfidence here (essentially almost everyone) makes it harder to judge the actual average. That’s the only connection I was making, and if everyone is overconfident, which it seems like, then its not necessarily wrong to judge them(based on dunning kruger).

Do you see those people in ratings that state

'I am HTN'

and then they're nothing even close to that? - Even that person in this thread who said they're 140 IQ? They're everywhere. They make up more than 60-70% of the community.

You’re right that we can’t decide an exact average IQ from this. My point was more about the pattern of overconfidence affecting how people rate themselves and overrate their IQ's. Which is directly correlated to what people who are stupider, do. Which is again, directly supported by the Dunning Kruger effect.
