people who said ortho ruined them are coping by saying their ugly because of their braces not their sub par genetics something like a reverse-pull headgear face mask struggles to make any significant skeletal change if you're over 11, yet they said getting class 2 elastics and braces recessed them at 15 like jfl. a recent study by Papageorgiou et al. (systematic review & meta-analysis, 2022) shows that the SNA decrease from using braces and class 2 elastics is 0.48 degrees (SNA is how far forward maxilla sits relative to the cranial base)
