Please don't DNR!
Need some advice on a massive choice. I am starting highschool soon. I am split between two paths for status and freedom. I'm 16.
First is getting a license and a 125cc bike. I can hit 100 km/h on the highways while others my age use mopeds and "EPA tractors" (cars that go 30km/h) which means theyre not even allowed on highways. It gives me total freedom to head out anywhere, even in winter if I use studded tires, but it costs around 4k total upfront. I will be living with my parents, and although they promised me that they wouldn't be as strict, I don't believe in that. But I'm pretty sure I can pull some strings so it's not that bad.
Second is an apartment right by campus that my parents could co-sign. Living alone at 16 is a huge flex and it becomes the default spot for everyone to hang out and pre-party. But it is a 750 dollar monthly burn for rent and food, meaning one bad month where I don't make enough is eviction! Also a 1.5k ish upfront cost for miscellaneous things (furniture, insurance etc), and being dependent on friends or public transport to get somewhere. A negative in its own. And the "janitor" effect, if I host something I gotta clean up. I gotta buy the things that break.
What should I decide? They both serve my primary goal, which is having easier transportation to school. I live in a different city from this new school, it's a rich kid private school. I'm only considering between these for status and what gives be an overall better ROI in my life.
All answers appreciated and I can answer questions. God bless.
