palate expansion with retainer?

Recently just had my braces removed and I now have to wear a hard plastic retainer overnight, is there any way to expand my palate now or will it just get reset by my retainer overnight every time?

haven't got another appointment with my orthodontist for 11 months and my dentist for at least 2 months
