Moving to the US or Europe and building a family there, by marrying with a local, makes you part of the "developed world", part of the part of the world where things are truly happening, part of the part of the world which is seen, and put in, a pedestal by the rest of the world

but yeah I had a family member move from San Francisco to some small ass nothing town up in like Maine and they said they fell into depression because they felt like they were irrelevant to world events. They said it just felt like your entire existence and surrounding was of no concern to anyone else in the world. If your town disappeared literally no one else would be effected.
