After watching the Fury - Wilder fight, it got me thinking, where did the idea that the most powerful/ highest performing physiques have to be shredded to fuck come from?

I can think of a few reasons, but maybe some high IQcels or anthropologists know more:

A) introduction of weight classes in combat sports- this meant naturally bigger guys could fight naturally smaller guys by losing all their fat till a couple of days before the fight, and appear shredded as hell

B) some BBCs from the 1960s onwards when combat sports, and sports in general had big financial rewards compared to being in the slum or the farm, those BBCs had fast twitch fibres, which generally went along with being generically lean, and this embedded the mindset in the public of the mythical 'mandingo' who had a physique not really attainable by normie JBWs who had already started to lose their T and become cucks

C) as obesity kicked in after the 80s it became easier to sell a powerful, efficient, effective physical image as a ripped guy, because so many normies carried bodyfat, that only a small percentage of 'fat guys' were physically effective, compared to a large majority of 'ripped guys'; you would have to know more than normies about physiology and sports to know that the ripped guys generally can only be efficient with a weight controlled environment / opponent, as they would lack the energy otherwise

Imagine if Bloatlord had a tiny bit of technique, he would hit harder than Ngannou and smash this twinks ribcage in one punch

Peak boxing physique is not peak physique for the wild, it's not even peak physique for fighting.

thats where ur wrong- punch power doesnt come from weights training, its purely technique + your weight. thats why his punches dont look too good

Anthony Joshua vs Ruiz put that theory to bed honestly. Joshua probably has the best physique in boxing and still got put to bed.

Boxing is not fighting its a sport. In a real fight, them ufc mfs would murder boxers and any other type of fighting.

That's what I'm saying, he has the weight, he just needs SOME technique

All those muscles used up too much oxygen.

It's a visual illusion. When you're lean, muscle mass is easier to see.

Agree, a jacked twink 'looks' more powerful and effective than a beast Bloatlord or strongman, it's more how did this become embedded in mainstream psyche?

I think another thing is the ancient Greeks (and then Romans) who adopted it had that very ripped idea of a powerful person, but that had its roots in their diet, the med diet (real med diet, not what sone curries on here will start coping saying roti, daal, chawal, sabzi is a med diet) kept u lean. If you look at Vikings a bit later or Pacific islander even earlier, the moggers were strong af bloatlords, mainly due to climate, lifestyle, and eating patterns, and later genetics/ natural selection/ epigenetics
