In this thread, I’ll discuss the simple science behind essential androgenic sex hormones, such testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), their effects on penile growth, and critiquing the external injection of androgenic hormones such as the two, and more. I'll run through how to these two hormones play their roles during puberty, how to maximize them naturally, and their effects. To all the depressed dicklets out there, their MAY be hope, stay motivated.
1. The Growth Of The Penis
The penis is developed through puberty and is mostly fueled by the male sex hormone testosterone.
Testosterone signals to the hormone receptors in the penis to continue with expansion during developmental windows, such as fetal development and more importantly—puberty.
Puberty’s start and end date heavily varies and is not fixed, but its usual beginning is at 10-14 and ends at 16-21, however recent studies have indicated its ending is more toward 18-21. In the graph depicted above, we see that testosterone is at its peak near ages 16-20. That directly correlates to near the end of puberty, which is why its critical to maximize these hormones at this age (preferably starting at 14-17, the earlier the better). Now let's discuss dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
2. The Importance of DHT
Dihydrotestosterone, also commonly known as DHT, is the stronger version of testosterone, which also fuels the growth and development of sexual male characteristics. It's made from testosterone, which is then converted by the alpha-5-reductase enzyme, therefore creating dihydrotestosterone.
The difference between DHT and testosterone is that DHT is much more potent and aggressive than testosterone, which again signals the penis for growth and further elongation. Remember, DHT is made from testosterone and is then converted by the enzyme, without testosterone, you cannot have DHT, meaning your penis will NOT reach its full potential without either of these hormones, testosterone being extra critical.
3. Maximization Of The Two (Naturally)
The main three ways to significantly boost these hormones is exercise/gym, diet, and sleep, which also provide a large variety of other benefits. A great lifestyle is key to this.
1. The Gym
- Heavy lifting and intense work of the muscular system create both mechanical and metabolic stress, which signals the brain to release testosterone and other hormones to help repair the tissue, fueling muscle growth and increased strength. It also lowers body fat dramatically, which is not only a great aesthetic benefit, but prevents the conversion of estrogen (female sex hormone) from testosterone, which signals the body to fuse the growth plates faster, screwing up your biology and aesthetics, such as height.
2. Diet
- Fatty Fish such as salmon and mackerel, containing essential raw materials lfor hormone building such as omega-3s and vitamin D, and overall high protein content. Shellfish like Oysters that contain zinc (very important). Zinc is a mineral that signals to the pituitary gland to release Luteinizing Hormone (LH), which signals to the testicles to start producing testosterone. Healthy fats and cholesterol from eggs, avocados, olive oil, etc. Testosterone is made directly from cholesterol, so its important have these healthy fats ingrained in your diet. Overall, look into Mediterranean-style diets for more information.
3. Sleep
I know this is a health cliche, but it is super important. Most testosterone production is made during sleep, more specifically Rapid Eye Movement sleep (REM). Also, the pituitary gland releases releases specific hormones while you sleep that tell the body to make testosterone. This is also a contributing factor to waking up bricked as fuck (morning wood), and why males get multiple erections during the night without even knowing it. Overall, aim for 8-10 hours of sleep daily to allow for more REM sleep and hormone production.
4. Miscellaneous/Extra
- I’ve discussed things that maximize these hormones, but it’s critical to highlight what minimizes these hormones. One of which being cortisol (the stress hormone).
Cortisol is released in the adrenal glands in response to stress, and cortisol actively blocks testosterone when they interact in the body. However, cortisol is still an essential hormone, it is only harmful and detrimental to testosterone when you are in state of distress (chronic, intense stress), an occasional cortisol spike (JFL
) is perfectly healthy and actually beneficial to the body because it builds biological and mental resilience.
Additionally, you may have heard misconceptions about dihydrotestosterone (DHT) being a negative hormone that contributes to male pattern baldness. This is only true if you are genetically susceptible to hair loss in the first place, which is why the hair follicles are sensitive to DHT. That's why medications such as finasteride and dutasteride are effective against hair loss because they are alpha-5-reductase inhibitors, meaning they block the DHT conversion enzyme, strengthening the hair follicles. Although, some may experience libido effects due to the blocking of DHT on finasteride and dutasteride. Remember, do NOT take anything that inhibits the DHT-conversion enzyme (alpha-5-reductase) or anything of the sort due to obvious reasons such as limiting penile growth.
Critiquing External Injections Of These Androgens (Steroids/HGH, etc)
- You may be thinking, since extra testosterone during puberty equals bigger penis, shouldn't I just inject myself with these hormones artificially? This isn't advised and can go south rapidly. When you start to inject testosterone externally, the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis will begin to reduce and stop the production of these hormones naturally due to a natural negative feedback loop, which will defeat the purpose of the increased in androgen hormones.
Additionally, once the body begins receiving an influx of these hormones artificially, the extra testosterone will be converted into estrogen, which I already explained why that is detrimental. To combat this, some may pair androgen injections with estrogen-blockers such as Amiridex to reduce the testosterone to estrogen conversion. However, it still isn't advisable because estrogen is still a critical hormone even in male anatomy and can throw off bodily systems and result in multiple negative health effects.
Check your testosterone levels by bloodwork through requesting your doctor to do so, and then if you’re truly deficient in testosterone, you two can discuss Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). Artificial hormones are perfectly fine here because you’re in a medically monitored facility with licensed physicians/endocrinologists that can safely measure and control these hormonal levels and how they play a role in your body. To summarize everything I've explained in this thread so far, it’s critical that you maintain a great lifestyle during puberty to maximize these androgenic sex hormones naturally to reach your full potential in terms of male sexual characteristic size and a desirable physique.
First time ever creating a thread like this so let me know what y'all think and any constructive criticism you guys have if you would like to offer it. This may be a water thread/topic to you, but so many people overlook it and miss the pubertal developmental window, so it’s important to discuss and highlight.
