Truly brutal that some people say "just train hard and practice, and you can become a pro athlete!"

Meanwhile, we got people being drafted into the NFL despite literally NEVER PLAYING FOOTBALL just because they are so genetically gifted:

Literally 2/3 of your athletic ability is set by genetics. (PubMed). It's crazy to me that PED use is so demonized when genetics are essentially praised, despite genetics reflecting nothing about your character and work ethic. At least PED use shows determination.

I knew genetics was an insane factor in playing sports because I used to swim myself.

Spent 2 years swimming. 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I used to get outpaced by a kid two years younger than me, rich, tall, early puberty, never put a molecule of effort into training.

I did not know it was THAT brutal, however

Same man, I got beaten in swimming by kids two years younger than me who skipped practice to smoke every day.

Even in motorsports the gap between formula 2, and any lower ranking racing divisions and then f1 world champions, rally car champions, endurance racing champions is insane with the amount of reflexes and quick thinking you need for it

Tbf IMO all sports are like this but you know its very visible when somebody is this big and athletic by numbers. If you could assess talent in sports that are less body type dependent like soccer, then stories like this would be everyday. For example if messi started at Bernards age, he would be in the league. But no one will find someone like messi because being so short doesnt catch your attention. Sports, truly are brutal. My friend does track and has time of like 12 sec or bit less. Random skinny 6 ft 2 dude who is lean and NEVER did any sports ran his time but in SNEAKERS. This fuckass dude ran time which others need multiple years of effort to have. Also brutal are stats on identical twins in nba, when having nba brother. Like 12 percent of high achieving athletes are becoming them themselves, which shows that enviroment and learned shit and GENETICS really change it all. Or look up at wikipedia whole page dedicated to athlete families. It shows clear overrepresentation for anyone with iq over 120 @chudpiller

Yeah, one of the most important skill in many sports is speed especially in short distances. There are only two muscle fiber types, Fast and slow twitch muscle fibers. Fast twitch fibers are specialized for explosive high intensity movments like sprinting, they are also larger and produce more force than the later. Meanwhile slow twitch fibers are more endurance focused and are best suited for long distance running. As you can see, fast twitch fibers are more dominant in most big sports such as basketball, football, soccer, etc, leaving kids with slow twitch fibers cucked.
