Immigration, woke authoritarianism, liberalism etc. play a role, but I think the real reason why Brits have always been unhappy is because of a weak middle class and legacy of a rigid class structure. In European history you had this period of "absolute monarchy" after the Middle Ages where monarchs wanted to expand and centralize their power over their countries and free themselves from the very strong influence of the nobility, and they accomplished that by (among other things) encouraging and promoting the growth of a middle class among the commoners so that they could appoint them to government positions instead of nobles as was the norm until then. Basically creating a new power base separate from the nobility to support their expanding power. The UK never had this, British monarchs were always under the thumb of the nobility and parliament so they weren't incentivized to do anything other than promote the existing class structure and support the interests of the nobility, hence a weak middle class.
