inb4: #NotAllWomen #NotAllMen #IAmSpeakingGenerallyNotInAbsolutes
As the title says "personality" matters to women when it comes to attraction to a romantic partner.
I think the disconnect exists on two fronts:
Women are not and have not been "lying" about this. PERSONALITY MATTERS.
She won't like him long-term if their personality's don't mesh; AND she won't want to fuck him ongoing if his personality lacks the necessary charm/assuredness/intuition/etc. to trigger her feeling sexually aroused, all else equal.
Years ago TRPers were astute enough to categorize this into "beta behavioral traits" that trigger comfort and "alpha behavioral traits" that trigger her sexual arousal. They knew that a woman's "ideal" man had BOTH.
A man who only had "beta traits" was called a Beta Bucks who she didn't didn't want to fuck.
A man who only had "alpha traits" was called an Alpha Fucks who got casual sex from women, but who women didn't enjoy in a long-term relationship due to the lack of consideration and care. Also some "Alpha Fucks" men lacked "adulting discipline" which led to her losing respect and admiration for him which led to her ultimately not wanting to fuck him due to the lack of respect. Guys like this are only able to get "casual sex" but they can't "keep a woman." The movie "Don Jon" is a thoughtful exploration of dudes like this.
If I'm being honest, the perfect ratio for a man is 60% alpha traits and 40% beta traits. But it depends woman to woman, man to man.
TLDR: "Personality" matters for her wanting to fuck ya AND "personality" matters for her wanting to stay with ya. The former and the latter are different behavioral traits being talked about but it all ladders up to "personality traits."

I think the disconnect exists on two fronts:
- How is "attraction" being defined?
- How is "personality" being defined?
- When it comes to attraction, it can mean "compatibility attraction" (their life together and enjoying him day to day moment to moment) or "carnal attraction" (sexual arousal to him).
- When it comes to "personality", it can mean "his general personality traits that align with his and her's everyday compatibility and enjoyable interpersonal bonding" or "his personality traits that trigger her sexual arousal."
