chatgpt summary:
The passage argues that marriage and family life distract from philosophical study, using examples like Theophrastus and Cicero. It suggests that true philosophers must avoid worldly concerns, including wealth and pleasure, to fully dedicate themselves to philosophy, as seen in the teachings of Seneca.

Most philosophers, especially ancient ones, were usually mysoginists or at least very skeptical of the importance of marriage.
Socrates was famous for hating his wife, and Schopenauer was a notorious woman-hater.

Freud considered them inferior beings only fit for reproduction, and Nietzsche constantly shifts between considering them potentially divine beings or irredemable parasites only good at lying.
