Philosophy has sort of this pseudo-intellectual reputation. A common attitude is to believe the philosophy is pseudo-profound bullshit that doesn't really matter. This is ultimately misguided people might question why we need philosophy in the first place. The world seems simple enough? Why not just live life? The problem with simply relying on our intuitive conceptions of the world is that much of what we consider true breaks down when held up to intellectual scrutiny.
The problem of universals is a pretty great example.
